If you currently have a job that pays you on a regular basis and you have all of your tasks and schedule figured to a perfect mark, your routine has become bearable and your commute is great. One day you are on your regular day and you get an unbelievable offer to make more money, be closer to home and do a job that is exactly what your hobby is. What do you do ? Do you take a leap of faith just leave the dependable job for the dream career ? If it is to god to be true, then you might want to stay with what you know is true. If it is a logical move, and you feel you really should take this leap, you might want to consider doing it.
Please don’t live a miserable job because of something I say, do not quit a perfectly fine job because something I have said or will say. Ok?
I was forever working in retail. Getting treated like trash by hundreds of people a week. Constantly bombarded with the chance to lose my alcohol license because someone coming to the counter while I was very busy. Steadily getting yelled at by kids who come in to the store to buy beer, I refuse them then they go out to the car to get their parents. ” Well the beer was for me” they would get so mad when I turn them down also. so I asked to be pulled from the register, after 8 years. I moved myself to sweeping the parking lot and changing trash and cleaning toilets. A whole lot more respect, and heh… the pay was better. I was happy doing that. Just slap my MP3 player in my ears pull my hoodie up and over, and just do my duties. Just got a raise, paid fuel. Mind you gasoline was at $6 a gallon at that time and I just bought a 400 horse power gas guzzling 14 mpg 0-100 in 7 seconds car.
Meanwhile I have a steady hobby of building websites and repairing computers for buddies and their friends.
I get this offer. A friend calls me and says that their significant other works in a place that needs a computer guy. someone that can sit at a computer all day long and draw small simple sketches, repair broken computers and make twice what I was making. It sounded like a scam at first. but it had my attention. So I investigated a little bit. I dropped by the place and filled out the application and instantly got an interview. The interview started out sounding like the guy had said the same lines a million times. Then he shook his head and said ” you know what, you will be in a whole new department, you might be the only guy doing what you do, none of that matters for you” .. Ok I took the leap. I got the job.
I took the step, doubting I could fill the position and I got it.
I have been there two years. I love the job.
